Sailing the Blue Aegean

Ataturk, Great Hero of Turkey

(short video clip I made to honor this great warrior, statesman and thinker)

I do not mention great men and women in history because I agree or not with their political philosophies but because they have done great things for humanity. History recalls many greats but sometimes we do not…

The Blue Aegean Sea…

(Aegean Coast of Turkey, photo property of FBC, All Rights Reserved)

I’ve never seen a bluer sea, and I’ve seen many, because if there is one thing that I love is the water…I was born near the water and I’ve always lived in a coastal city or town…but the Aegean Sea is incredibly beautiful.

Here are some shots I took while sailing in Turkish waters…

And areas along the coast heading south from Bodrum, and Bodrum is more or less in the middle of the Turkish Aegean coast, about a one hour flight from Istanbul.

It’s a very relaxing time, the time you spend on the water, and since most of the coastline is composed of coves and small bays, you can anchor and jump in any time of the day or the night that you like…

(Our saiboat, we rented it with friends, for one week, photo property of FBC, All Rights Reserved)

When you hire a boat, it comes with a captain, a chef and a first mate. You then purchase everything and anything you wish to eat along the voyage as well as everything and anything you would like to drink. We had a great chef and ate gourmet quality food throughout the seven days of sailing the Turkish Aegean.

It is a very relaxing and refreshing time, a most enjoyable experience. You eat, you drink, you take in the sunshine and the gorgeous waters of that blue, blue Aegean Sea…

I leave you with a little video clip that I made of my trips and journeys in Turkey, a country I know very well, although I should say that I know the western, Aegean coast, because Turkey is a huge country and I know very little of all points east, north or further south…

Turkey, at least some of it…

Marmaris, Turkey, sailing the Aegean…

(Marmaris marina, photo by FBC, Omnia Caelum Studios Valencia)

Marmaris is on the Aegean coast of Turkey…

From there we sailed for seven days on a beautiful wooden sailboat that we filled with friends…

These are the bluest, cleanest waters…

Trust me, I have taken several of these “blue voyage” trips along the southern Turkish coast and it is an incredibly fun adventure…

With good friends, you will have a great time. You will enjoy the scenery, the water and great food and drinks!

Seven days sailing these waters is a lovely way to spend some time in summer. The Aegean coast of Turkey is a beautiful place…

Turquía cerca del Mar Egeo…

(Foto de FBC, C.2019 Derechos Reservados, All Rights Reserved)

Debajo del mástil, un arcoíris…

Son las cosas que uno siente en la costa del Egeo, en Turquía, pues se siente el sol, “el raudo foco que lo fomenta todo en la natura” (Almafuerte), y el sol trae vida…

(Foto de FBC, C.2019, Derechos Reservados, All Rights Reserved)

Siento que en un barquito de madera puedo vencer la fuerza imponente de la naturaleza, digamos la fuerza del mar…

Pero en Turquía, lo que ves se convierte en poesía…

(Foto de FBC, C.2019, Derechos Reservados, All Rights Reserved)

Sentado en un banco viejo y ajado, cerca del mar, pienso y me pienso maravillas. Aquí la tierra brilla por el reflejo del oro. Las piedras recuerdan las pisadas de pueblos que ya nadie recuerda…

Así es Turquía…

(Foto de FBC, C.2019, Derechos Reservados, All Rights Reserved)

Un hilo fino de arena pretende frenar mareas y lo logra…

Aguas que no se cansan de sentir el roze humano y que aún te esperan, como una novia…

Venga, no tengo que decios más,

Así es Turquía…

Once You are a River

Xanthos River, Turkey (Antalya)

Once you are a river you can flow…

If you are as water you will never find obstacles and you will always find the level ground and a place to squeeze by…

And no one can hold you in their hands because you flow through their fingers…

Once you are a river you can irrigate the land and bring forth fruit and bring forth grass…

(View from Kalekoy near Antalya, Turkey)

I have always loved to be close to the water. I find that living on the coast gives me a sense of freedom and looking at the sea, or the ocean always gives me peace of mind and a sense of tranquility. No matter how much the waters of the sea look the same, they are always changing, always moving, always offering a new and different panorama and it makes me realise that life is not so complex as we perhaps make it. Yes, there is an enormous complexity in life but that is not our concern as we did not create it, we are the created, we are part of life and therefore need not understand it. Eventually, we will know as we are known…

All we need to do is to simply live life. If you live near the sea and you penetrate the waters with your eyes, with your imagination and with your sense of awe, you will begin to let go of the things that make your life complex and stressful and begin to feel more and think less…

(Marina at Alacati, Turkey)

What can be more joyful and satisfying, as well as a very relaxing way to end a workday, than to sit by the water, with a nice glass of Spanish wine, and listen to the silence of the evening, perhaps only interrupted by the soft sounds of the clanging of the lines that hold the sails as the boats are slightly moved about by the currents of the harbour, and wait for the full moon to make her grand entrance into the stage of the sky…

And once you are a river you can flow into the sea…

And you will be the sea…

I took these pictures on my different trips to Turkey. They are all from the Aegean or the Mediterranean Sea…

I hope you have enjoyed them and if you have, please hit that like button, follow and share and comments are always welcome and encouraged.
