Weekend Artists Series, Part 2: Is Madonna an Influencer of the Arts? A video with photographs & music…

(Madonna, 1958- )

Ok, so here is a short video…with original music…of Madonna and some of the art collections she is supposed to have. It includes a special, and secret painting from 1932 by Frida Kahlo titled “My Birth” (which is horrible, and that is my opinion) as well as photographs by Herb Ritts (who took some great shots of her), photographer Tina Madotti and Weegee. And as a bonus there is a pic of JR and some of his amazing photography in the streets of Berlin and other cities…

Let me know what you think…

I had to pass on this, Francisco. Madonna has never been one of my favorites. That she is considered an “influencer” is a sad commentary on our society.

I believe as my friend SP believes, influencer yes but not for the best interests of society…

I don’t think Madonna had any significant influence on art, though her photographs might be included with the likes of Marilyn M, included in contemporary collections.
“My Birth” is filled with symbolism but as is often the case I think Frida intended to shock as most surrealist did.
I find that painting hard to look at though she explains that it is her perception of giving birth to herself and the covered face represents her mother who had recently died. Not something I would hang on my living room wall. 😊

Neither would I! It’s one of the ugliest paintings I’ve ever seen! I’m no fan of Frida, I’ve really no use for her in art history. Thanks Holly 😊

I have to agree with you. She has a very interesting life story but I don’t find her art to my liking. I think you have to be into surrealism to like this…perhaps the Marquis?😊

        I agree Holly, thanks and I hope you’ve a lovely week 😊

As a musician, I find her to be moderately talented. As a celebrity, I find her to be outdated and needy. As an art influencer, I find her non-existent.

I have to say that I did admire her during the 80’s and early 90’s, not just because of her music, which I picked and chose from, but because of her attitude, which I found to be refreshing. But the Madonna of today is nothing like that one, she doesn’t even look the same any more…so, after 1993, I stopped listening to her and quickly forgot about her…Thank you my friend, I truly value your opinion and I do see her as an influencer but not for the good of art or of society or anyone except the rich and famous that she surrounds herself with as still being the “material girl”, in her mid sixties…
      All the best,
      F.
