Wednesdays of Art and Music…Omnia Caelum Studios…”Are there styles in art?”

(Original painting “Mare” by Francisco Bravo Cabrera, Omnia Caelum Studios Valencia)

I never thought about “styles” of art. I don’t think these exist anymore. However, if you look back in art history you will find the times divided into epochs with names, like the Baroque, the Romantic, the Impressionists et cetera…

Perhaps that served to group items into sets so they could be easier explained, I don’t know. What I do know is that it served to make art a subject easy to teach but it didn’t really tell me anything about the development of art. And another thing that it did was make me wonder in what epoch are we in now? What is the style of art prevalent today?

The reply is that there is no more epochs, there is no more style prevalent. Nowadays it is more the personality that is more prevalent…

Here are some examples…

So, even though I wondered what the “style” was back then when I first started, I soon forgot about it and just started to paint…

Personally, I agree that styles are something of the past so I quickly let it go and not let it interfere with my intention to create different works of art and see…

Here are some examples of work created throughout my years painting professionally and also paintings from when I started Omnia Caelum Studios, the first of which was Miami…

“Each step we take will leave its trace etched in the rocks of time.” The journey of style.

I guess I always thought that these “periods” in art were because a certain style or group of artists well popular in the time, not so much as a concerted effort by artists to paint or create a certain way. But style means nothing to me. Beauty is beauty and style is just a word we use to categorize something that doesn’t easily fit into our world. Great post and question, Francisco!

Thank you my friend, and I agree, as it is so simple to develop a “style”, all you have to do is repeat yourself as infinitum and you’ve a style. Thanks and all the best.
