A photo montage of some of the works of Betye Saar

(African-American artist Betye Saar, born 1926)

Here is a short photo montage video I made with the help of the lads of AJA who recorded…with me on the guitar…the original background music which we think fits her style and description. I hope you enjoy it. Her work is amazing. She is in hundreds of museums and is the master of the assemblage as well as a great representative of American art in general.

If you have liked this entry to the series “Saturdays Artist Series” please let me know. Let us converse about art, about artists, about their work, if we like them, if we do not and anything else related to art, music or poetry because she also wrote interesting poetry. Lovely montage, and I agree, the background music was a beautiful backdrop to her art.

Thank you Brad! I am so glad you liked it. I worked on two separate pieces of music for that montage, but the first one, although it was rhythmic, sounded more Chinese or Japanese, and I wanted to give it the African feel, although we had no African instruments, we improvised with Middle Eastern and Chinese drums…
