The Human Rights Watch Organisation wants to take the new Egyptian government to “court” and has accused them of massacres and other human rights violations. Egypt was in the midst of a civil war, a war for liberation from the likes of the Muslim Brotherhood which, if allowed, would have plunged the country into the throes of obscurity and religious intolerance. The military acted as they needed to do to save the country and rid Egypt of Islamists bent on taking power and then forcing their brand of religion down every one’s throats. The worst off would have been the Coptic, or Egyptian Christians, with whom Mubarak was friendly with and who are well respected and protected by Egypt’s new military government.
Yet, the thing that truly upsets me about this “rightful indignation” of the Human Rights Organisation, is the fact that they are showing how biased, prejudiced and one-sided they are. If they feel the military “powers that be” in Egypt committed an atrocity worthy of their ire, then do they not think Israel is a committing war crimes, massacres and senseless killings of civilians (mostly women and children) in Gaza?
If you are going to indict a government for Human Rights violations, something I agree with, I think you should not be a hypocrite and look at all those who are committing such atrocities and not look the other way when it concerns the supposed “right of Israel to defend itself!” I am sick and tired of hearing about Israel’s right to defend itself. All countries have that right but most countries do not steal land from their neighbours, then lock them in, blockading them and not letting them access out, not even for humanitarian reasons, then accuse the entire population of being terrorists and then charge into their weakened and impoverished land with tanks supported by air power, kills thousands of innocent civilians and injures more than 10,000 and thoroughly destroys everything in sight!
To Human Rights Watch: if you want to be taken seriously, go after Israel with all your moral strength and at least show that you are not so slanted towards the side that thinks Israel has the right to be above the law and that every one else’s life in that area is worthless if it means that Israel must defend itself!
